The game was also included at the Apex and Zenith tournaments. While over in Japan in 2010, Smash 64 was played at tournaments such as Kanto and Kansai. The first offline 64 tournament that could be considered nationally recognised was the FC Diamond in 2007. There are several gaming tournaments that feature Super Smash Bros titles across the world, particularly the US and Japan. The game didn’t get recognised competitively until two years later with the release of it’s sequel Super Smash Bros Melee. What makes Super Smash Bros 64 stand out the most compared to others is that it is the only game in the franchise that didn’t have an initial competitive scene. I still bring this game out from the depths and play it on my Nintendo 64 to this day, but I will discuss my personal experience with this game later in this blog. Smash 64 to me is an emotional ride of nostalgia, competition and hilarity. I began to play this game myself when I was about 3 to 4 years old and I have loved it ever since. The game featured twelve characters from separate Nintendo titles and it is the forefather of the Smash franchise. Super Smash Bros 64 was released on 21 January 1999 and is the first game to be released in the series.
